North Sets IWU 10,000m Record with All-American Finish on Day One of NCAA Championship

Wyman, Harden qualify for Saturday's finals heats

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) started off the NCAA Championships with a bang for Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team with a record-setting 10,000m run performance Thursday night, May 27, at Irwin Belk Track.

North secured All-American honors with a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m run, where she crossed the finish line in 35:43.82. With her performance, North broke the IWU record of 36:01.82 set by Erin McCarey in 2016. North, who posted the best finish in the event in program history, is the first Titan to earn All-American honors in the event since Rachel Williams finished sixth in 2012.

Senior Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville) qualified for Saturday's 400m Hurdles final. After running a personal-best 1:02.64, Wyman will enter Saturday's final heet as the fifth seed.

Junior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) clocked in with a personal-best of 4:34.44 in the 1500m run, which also ranks second-best in IWU laurels. Harden, who finished fourth in her heat, ran the seventh-best preliminary time overall.

Senior Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling) placed 12th in discus with a toss of 41.06m, while sophomore Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy) finished 13th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.82.

Day two of the championship picks back up tomorrow, May 28, with Bendery competing in the 100m dash prelims at 3:30 p.m. ET.
