Women's Track Posts Strong Showing at CCIW Elite Meet

IWU won 10 events on the day

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team closed out the indoor season on a high note, recording 10 events wins at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Elite Meet Saturday, March 13. Illinois Wesleyan was incredible on the track, where the Titans picked up seven of their 10 wins.

In the 4x400m relay, IWU's Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville), Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy), Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca Township), and Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) teamed up to record a time of 4:01.09, the 11th-best time nationally.

Bendery notched individual wins in the 60 and 200m dashes. In the 60m, she crossed the finish line in 7.77 seconds, while she clocked a time of 25.89 in the 200m dash.

Senior Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) claimed the 5000m run with a season-best time of 17:34.98, the eighth-best in all of Division III. North cruised around the track, finishing more than 40 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. 

Harden picked up a win in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:04.26. Her time, which was a season-best, ranks 10th nationally. 

Jenna Mirande (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone) finished IWU's sweep of the distance events, claiming the top spot in the 3000m run. She turned in a time of 10:35.68 and won the race by nearly 10 seconds.

Wyman, who ran the opening leg of IWU's 4x400m relay, also recorded an individual first-place finish in the 800m run. Crossing the finish line in 2:19.53, Wyman edged out the second-place finisher by less than half a second.

Wilkinson led a one-two finish for the Titans in long jump, recording a jump of 5.36m. Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) took second with a jump of 5.33m.

Senior Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling) earned the win in shot put with a distance of 13.18m, while freshman Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) added a win in triple jump. Wong posted a season-best mark of 11.31m, the best by a Titan this season, en route to the first-place finish.
