Women's Track and Field Turns in Strong Showing at Titan Triangular II

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team won seven of 13 events in another strong showing Saturday, Feb. 6, as the Titans competed against Augustana College and Millikin University inside the Shirk Center.

Junior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) secured wins in the 800m Run and the Mile. She used a strong push in the last 100m to take the 800m title with a time of 2:24.69, before crossing the finish line with a time of 5:20.17 in the mile.

IWU sprinters Avery Smith (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North) and Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy) notched wins in the 60m and 200m Dash, respectively. Smith, who had the best time in prelims, finished with a final time of 8.16. Bendery recorded a season-best time of 26.28 en route to the 200m dash title.

Bendery and Harden later teamed up with senior Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca Township) and junior Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville) for a win in the 4x400m relay.

Illinois Wesleyan dominated the jumps, as Wilkinson won long jump with a distance of 5.22m and freshman Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) secured the triple jump title with a mark of 11.27m. Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) added a second-place finish in long jump.

The Titans return to action next weekend, Feb. 13, when Millikin and Wheaton College visit the Shirk Center for the third Titan Triangular of the season. Events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m., with the men leading the day off, followed by the women's session in the afternoon.
