BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Titans won eight events, led by two victories by sophomore Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy), as the Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team began the 2020-21 season inside the Shirk Center Saturday, Jan. 30. IWU competed against Millikin University and Augustana College in the first of five Titan Triangulars, finishing second with 102 points. Millikin won the meet with 108 points, while Augustana came in third with 79.

Bendery paced the Titans with wins in the 60m and 200m dashes. She claimed the top spot in the 60m sprint with a time of 8.00, while she edged out the competition in the 200m dash with a time of 26.37.

Fellow sophomore Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) notched a first-place finish in the 800m dash in her official IWU debut. Crossing the finish line nearly nine seconds ahead of the competition, Harden posted a time of 2:23.18.

Senior Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) led IWU's sweep of the top-three spots in the 3000m, crossing the finish line at 10:49.67. Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) came in second (11:02.71), followed by third-place finisher Jenna Mirande (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone) at 11:04.68.

In the field events, junior Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello), freshman Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) and senior Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling) won an event apiece. Helferich claimed the top spot in long jump with a mark of 5.40m, while Wong's debut of 11.05m was good for first-place in triple jump.

Blair's win came in the shot put, where the returning NCAA qualifier recorded a throw of 13.05m. Blair added a second-place finish in the weight throw (15.07m).

Bendery, seniors Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca Township) and Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville), and Harden teamed up for a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay in the final event of the night with a time of 4:09.61.

IWU returns to competition next weekend, Feb. 6, for the second of five Titan Triangulars. Illinois Wesleyan will host Augustana College and Millikin University inside the Shirk Center for the second consecutive weekend. Competition is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
