ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team opened its 2020-21 season with a 6-1 win on the road against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Tower Grove Park Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27. 

The Titans picked up wins at No. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles, as well as No. 2 and 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, junior Alessia Girardin (Chicago, Ill.-Regina Dominican) overcame a 6-4 loss in the opening set with 6-4 and 10-2 victories to earn the win. Juniors Anna Cooper (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Prospect) and Ashley Mohr (Morton, Ill.-Morton) notched 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Also picking up wins were sophomores Caitlyn Smith (St. Jacob, Ill.-Triad) and Katelyn Heller (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West)

The pair of Cooper and Smith tallied a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Girardin and Andrea Zulawski (Elmhurst, Ill.-Willowbrook ) cruised to a 6-0 win.
