CLINTON & DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team opened the season with wins over Loras College and the University of Dubuque Sunday, Sept. 8. The Titans topped the Duhawks 6-3 in their first match before running away with an 8-1 victory against the Spartans.

Against Loras, Illinois Wesleyan picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles, while also earning the doubles point to open the day with a 6-3 victory. The Titans followed that up with another strong showing against the Spartans, as IWU notched wins at No. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles, as well as the doubles point.

Sophomore Demetrios Triantafel (Indian Head Park, Ill.-LaGrange Lyons HS) went 2-0 on the day at No. 1 singles defeating Loras' Kevin Blomquist and Dubuque's Axel Figueroa by 6-4, 6-4 tallies. Triantafel, alongside freshman Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High), also picked up wins at No. 1 doubles to lead the way for Illinois Wesleyan.

The Titans head to Kenosha, Wis. this weekend Friday-Sunday, Sept. 13-15, for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Fall Invitational.
