ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Cross Country Championships, Saturday, Nov. 2. IWU will look to improve upon its rank in last week's CCIW Cross Country Coaches' Poll where the women and men were predicted to finish tied for fourth and seventh, respectively.
The only time either side won a team title came in 2012, when the women's cross country team captured the CCIW championship with a total of 32 points. Two females have won the individual title in the history of the CCIW Championships, with Kerry Devitt in 2009 and Rachael Williams in 2012 claiming top individual honors.
On the women's side, sophomore Jenna Mirande (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone HS) placed 10th with a time of 22:33 in last year's event. Junior
Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley HS, 22:56) and sophomore
Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour HS, 24:23) are also returning to compete in this meet.
In last year's conference championships, junior Matt Wagner (Palos Heights, Ill.-Marist HS)Â led all IWU men with a time of 25:09, placing in 14th. Other top returners from last season include senior
Steven Raybould (Hometown, Ill.-Oak Lawn HS, 26:23) and junior
Zach Schneider (Mundelein, Ill.-Carmel Catholic HS, 29:00).
The men's 8k race is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and the women's 6k race is scheduled for a 12:45 p.m. start. Results will be published as soon as they are confirmed.
