Box Score 2 HOLLAND, Mich. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Hope and 3-2 to Rose-Hulman at the Midwest Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14, in Holland, Mich.
The Titans, now 13-11, lost to No. 14-ranked Hope by scores of 15-25, 18-25, 25-22, 16-25, then lost to Rose-Hulman, 22-25, 13-25, 25-21, 25-22, 14-16.
"Our inconsistency in scoring on the easy plays is determining the outcome of our matches right now," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We need to execute and take better advantage of those opportunities."
Freshman
Maddie Greybar led IWU with 13 kills and had 16 defensive digs, while freshman
Kinzie Schweigert had 12 kills and hit .321. Sophomore
Stephanie Buhrow provided 12 kills and junior
Alex Hill had 10.
Sophomore
Erin Wachtel had 39 set assists and led the team with 17 digs.
Hope improved to 16-3 with the win and hit .360 as a team, getting a match-high 18 kills from Jenna Grasmeyer.
Buhrow had 23 kills, nine digs and hit .314 in the match against Rose-Hulman. The 23 kills is second most in an IWU five-set match since 2002, trailing only Michele Malinowski's 24 against St. Scholastica on Sept. 1, 2007.
Greybar had 17 kills and 17 digs while sophomore
Sarah Blum and senior
Stacy Hassinger each had 18 digs.
Wachel had 17 digs and 60 set assists, also second in IWU game records since 2002. Hassinger holds the five-set record with 70 assists against Wartburg on Oct. 31, 2009.
On Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich., Illinois Wesleyan will play Albion at 12 p.m. and then face No. 1 nationally-ranked Calvin at 2 p.m.
