BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Rising senior Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team was selected to compete for the USA D-3 women's volleyball team's Brazil tour. Feeney was one of 10 student-athletes selected to represent Division III and the lone College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin student-athlete.

The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams are invited NCAA Division III women's & men's players from across the country.  These teams are comprised of players recognized nationally, regionally, and by their conferences. The women's team is made up of 10 players representing 6 different colleges and universities and coming from six different home states.

"This is an outstanding group of young women & men," says Ron Smith. "Many of the players on this year's USA D-3 Volleyball Team - Brazil Tour had great individual seasons and led their teams into post season play. This tour is designed to expose players to a great international volleyball experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth."

Feeney was selected to represent IWU after a stellar junior season. A co-captain of a team that made its second-straight NCAA Regional Championship, Feeney became the first Titan to be named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Setter of the Year and was a First Team All-CCIW honoree. Feeney appeared in all 31 matches for the Green and White, helping guide them to a 28-3 record and its second consecutive CCIW regular season and tournament championships. She led the team with 629 assists, an average of 5.82 per set, while adding 177 digs and 38 aces.

The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams tour will run from June 8 through June 17, with orientation taking place before departing for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will play doubleheaders on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11 in Rio de Janeiro. They will also take part in conducting a youth clinic at the Marina Barra Clube, hosted by Ripper Volei as part of their social outreach project. On Saturday, June 13, the team will be a part of an "International Challenge" which will see them play three matches each against Brazilian teams at the Marina Barra Clube in Barra Tijuca.

While in Brazil the team will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school, and sports club visits.  In Rio, the team will be staying on the world famous Copacabana Beach (location for the 2016 Rio Olympic Beach Volleyball) and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. The team will visit the popular international market in Ipanema and Ipanema Beach.
