NEW ORLEANS - Four student-athletes of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's track and field team were named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic selections Monday, July 20. Senior Gavin Gonzalez (Mattoon, Ill.-Mattoon), freshman Dylan Hodges (Sycamore, Ill.-Sycamore), and sophomore Alex Maas (Heyworth, Ill.-Heyworth) earned the accolade for the first time in their respective careers, while junior Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) earned the honor for the second straight season. Along with the student-athletes, the program garnered the team award.

In order to be eligible for the All-Academic Team award, programs must have a 3.1 grade point average or higher. Led by head coach Tom Lowder, the IWU men's track and field program posted a 3.45 cumulative GPA to earn the team award.

Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 while competing in an NCAA indoor or outdoor championship during the 2025 season, be one of the top 50 individuals in their respective events, or be a member of a top-35 relay team.

Gonzalez holds the program record in the javelin with his 60.87m toss at the Greenville Select April 11, 2026. The throw earned him USTFCCCA All-Region honors and narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships, finishing 25th. The nursing major earned All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors winning the men's javelin with his 58.27m toss at the outdoor championships.

Hodges propelled the team's 4x400m relay to win a CCIW Indoor and Outdoor Championship with a time of 3:21.91 and 3:19.32, respectively. The relay team earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors, but Hodges still impressed in the 400m and 200m in his rookie campaign. He garnered All-CCIW accolades with his time of 50.41 in the 400m and 22.66 in the 200m and as a member of the 4x400 relay

Another member of the USTFCCCA All-Region 4x400m relay, Maas, also competed in the 400m and the Distance Medley Relay. He brought home all-conference honors for a second-place finish in the DMR during outdoor season and a fourth-place finish in the 400m, crossing the line at 48.97. In the 200m, the kinesiology and allied health major posted a career-best 21.91 April 23, 2026 at the Thursday Night Twilight. He currently holds the seventh-best time in program history in the outdoor 200m and the outdoor 400m.

Green has been a key member on the 4x400 relay team the past three seasons, winning the CCIW relay in back-to-back seasons, ranking inside the top-35 twice. The business major corralled all-conference recognition in four events during indoor season placing fifth in the 200m, third in the long jump, second in the 4x100m, while helping the 4x400 win the conference championship. He was named USTFCCCA All-Region with his finish in the outdoor long jump, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
