Several Titans Improve Qualifying Marks at Last Chance Meets

Huber and Lowder move into top-15 in Division III

Joliet, Ill., La Crosse, Wis., & Bloomington, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams competed in three last chance meets Friday, May 8 with goals of improving national rankings in respective events. Four Titans set new personal-best marks.

Junior Makenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) finished top-15 in the women's 800m at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. With a new personal-best time of 2:10.07, Huber now ranks No. 12 in Division III in the event.

At the Uncaged Eagle Open in La Crosse, Wis., senior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) ran his first sub-47 time of the season in the men's 400m. Taking second-place in the event, Lowder ran 46.99 to place himself inside the top-10 in Division III. In the same event, freshman Dylan Hodges (Sycamore, Ill.-Sycamore) ran a personal-best time of 49.50.

At the St. Francis Fight Chance Meet, senior Gavin Gonzalez (Matton, Ill.-Mattoon) took home top honors in the men's javelin. Gonzalez threw 57.89m on his first attempt of the day to win the event. Also in Joliet, Ill., sophomore Jacob Pinkston (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) ran a personal-best time in the men's 800m, taking the event win in the 800m invitational section three with a time of 1:52.62. The sophomore's time advances him to fourth-best on the program's all-time top-10 list.

Senior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) is set to compete in the men's pole vault at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet Saturday, May 9. The rest of the Titans will head to final last chance opportunities next weekend.
