Crabtree Takes Third at Nationals in 3000m Steeple

Sets new program and CCIW record

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Senior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) made the most of her final race as a member of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team, claiming third in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday, May 22.

One day removed from resetting her own program record in the prelims, Crabtree did it again, as well as establishing a new College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-time record. The senior posted a time of 10:18.82, which breaks Wheaton's Hannah Roeske's record of 10:23.26 set in 2018. Sophie Bull of Calvin was this year's national champion, establishing a new meet record of 10:04.18.

Crabtree's third-place finish is the highest of her career at a national championship. In the event, Crabtree is a two-time First Team All-American, as she finished seventh in last season's 3000m steeplechase.

Senior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) snuck into the men's 400m finals, grabbing the eighth qualifying spot. The senior ran a time of 47.30 to take second in his heat and make it to tomorrow's final at approximately 2:20 p.m.

Junior Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) ended her junior season and first full year as part of the track and field program with a 17th-place finish in the women's 800m prelims with a time of 2:11.54. Huber qualified for both the indoor and outdoor track and field national championships and was an indoor First Team All-American in her junior campaign and currently holds the second-fastest time in program history in the outdoor 800m.

Women's triple jump and women's javelin will compete along with Lowder tomorrow, May 23, for the final day of competition at the national championship.
