FRISCO, Texas - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team dropped two spots to No. 23, amassing 90 points in the most recent Women's Golf Coaches Association Mizuno Coaches Poll, released Friday, May 1.
Since the last WGCA ranking April, 10, the Titans posted a pair of third-place finishes. The first came at their home tournament, the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12, and most recently, at the weather shortened UW-Whitewater Invite, Friday-Saturday, April 17-18.
After being named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week for her individual win at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, sophomore Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitiation Academy) lowered her season stroke average to 77.4. Fagan trails classmate Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) with a 76.8 average. Illinois Wesleyan has four Titans in the top-120 in the latest Clippd NCAA Division III player rankings. Emory University continued its stronghold on the top spot with 443 points and 14 first-place votes. Carnegie Mellon University accumulated 421 points and split the other four first-place nods with New York University. NPU tallied 408 points. A shake-up rounded out the top-five as Williams College (376) moved up a spot into fourth and Amherst College (353) jumped over two institutes for fifth.
The Titans are in the midst of a month break as they prepare for the NCAA Division III Championships in Palm Desert, Calif. The Green and White will break ground at Desert Willow Tuesday, May 19.
