Five Top-20 Finishers Lead Women’s Golf at UW-Whitewater Spring Invite

Titans look ahead to NCAA Championship, May 19-22

JANESVILLE, Wis. - The No. 21 Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team completed play at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite Saturday, April 18, at the par-72, 5,825-yard Janesville Riverside Golf Club. The Titans placed third with a score of 314 in the 18-team tournament, which was shortened from 36 to 18 holes due to heavy rainfall.

Sophomore Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) collected the fifth top-10 finish of her career and her second straight top-five placement to lead the Green and White. Fagan carded a one-over 73, highlighted by four birdies on the front-nine, to notch a share of second.

IWU's next two highest finishers came courtesy of sophomores Caroline Carr (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) and Breanna Brown (South Barrington, Ill.-Barrington), who played on the Titan 'B' squad. Carr turned in a six-over 78 to place 12th, while Brown's seven-over 79 was good for a 14th-place finish. Junior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) and freshman Julia Henry (Homewood, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor) tied for 18th with single-round totals of eight-over 80.

UW-Stout snagged the team title with a score of 301 aided by Julia Imai's medalist performance of even-par 72, while Aurora took runner-up at 311. Illinois Wesleyan's 'A' team recorded a 314, with the IWU 'B' team placing fourth with a score of 322. Dubuque rounded out the top-five (323).

With the regular season slate complete, the Titans set their sights on the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. The national tournament is scheduled for Tuesday-Friday, May 19-22, at Desert Willow in Palm Desert, Calif.
