Women’s Golf Up Two to No. 21 in WGCA Poll

Titans host Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling this weekend

FRISCO, Texas - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team moved up two places to No. 21 in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association Mizuno Coaches Poll, released Friday, April 10. The Titans accumulated 118 points.

Heading into its second home tournament of the season at Ironwood Golf Course, IWU looks to improve its ranking as No. 6 WashU, No. 16 Carleton, and No. 20 Grinnell are ranked teams to visit Normal, Ill. for the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12.

Sophomore Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) leads the Titans in stroke average this season at 76.3. Zera has earned three College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week awards this season, two coming this spring. She ranks No. 70 in the latest Clippd NCAA Division III player rankings, which is the highest on the Titan squad. Additionally, junior Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha North) is fresh off of a career-low three-under 69 at the WashU Spring Invite March 29-30. She is second on the squad in stroke average this season as she holds a 77.1. 

Emory topped the poll with 15 first-place votes and 539 points. New York University rose to second with six first-place votes and 528 points. Carnegie Mellon was third with 514 points, grabbing one first-place nod. Pomona-Pitzer (451) and Williams (432) rounded out the top-five.

IWU is set to host the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12, with a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m. A link to follow live scoring can be found on the women's golf schedule page of iwusports.com
