Crabtree Claims Program, CCIW Record

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams had a record-breaking day at the Keck DIII Select Saturday, Feb. 7 as a program and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin record fell, courtesy of senior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High).

Crabtree broke her second program record in the last seven days, this time in the women's 3000m. Crabtree's time of 9:42.66 bested Erin McCarey's record of 9:50.29 set in 2016. An indoor College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-time top mark was also set, as Crabtree's time beat out Hannah Roeske of Wheaton, who ran 9:44.34 in 2018. In the national ranks, Crabtree now sits comfortably in the top-10 in two events following her school records in the mile last weekend, Saturday, Jan. 31 and today in the 3000m.

Continuing in distance events, sophomore Maddie Morgan (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) was victorious in the women's 5000m, crossing the finish line in 18:59.33, just two seconds ahead of the runner-up.

In the men's mile, senior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) posted a third-place finish after crossing the finish line in personal-best fashion, 4:24.44.

Later on, in the women's 400m, freshman Mallory Short (Lincoln, Ill.-Lincoln) took the bronze, posting a personal-best 59.15. Short was one of five competitors to cross the finish line in under a minute in the women's 400m.

Senior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) advanced to the finals in the men's 60m hurdles following a season-best time, 8.64, in the preliminaries, to put him in the third position going into finals. In the finals, Mogged claimed fifth after posting a 8.73.

Senior Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Chatham) won a jump off tiebreaker in the men's high jump to take top honors, as he cleared a height of 2.00m to tie Eli Goldman of WashU. After Goldman missed the mark in his second attempt of the jump off, Lindberg cleared the bar to take first place in the event.

In the women's triple jump, Imani Ogunribido (Lake Park, Ill.-Hanover Park) took home top honors after a leap of 11.92m. With her mark of 12.53m at the Titan First Chance meet Friday, Dec. 5, Ogunribido continues to own the top spot in Division III. In addition, Ogunribido claimed third in the long jump, jumping 5.36m.

Freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger (Palos Park, Ill.-Stagg) cleared a height of 1.60m in the women's high jump to take runner-up honors in the event.

In throws, junior Lauryn Moore (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) finished third in the shot put after throwing a personal-best 11.27m.

In relays, the Titan women's squad of Short, junior Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East), and seniors Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) and Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) won the 4x400m relay, crossing the finish line in 3:58.51, beating out DePauw's team by a second.

Illinois Wesleyan hits the road next weekend for two meets. A group of Titans will travel to Michigan for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday, Feb. 13, while another group will travel to Monmouth, Ill. for the Roger Haynes Invitational Saturday, Feb. 14.
