BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams wrapped up a successful first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships Friday night, Feb. 27, as IWU garnered two event wins. Fourteen Titans earned All-CCIW honors in just 10 total events on day one.

The women's distance medley relay was victorious for the second consecutive season, as the team of seniors Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High), Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), along with juniors Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community) and Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) battled with North Central College for the title. Huber got the Titans out to a comfortable lead in the opening leg, before NCC fought back in the next two legs. Crabtree won the eventual one-on-one race to give the Titans their first title of the championship.

Senior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) won his second career men's pole vault conference crown, as he also won an indoor title in 2023. Clearing a height of 4.66m, Whitaker was the last man standing. Sophomore teammate Sam Churchill (Seneca, Ill.-Seneca) recorded the highest finish of his career in a conference championship, earning All-CCIW honors with a season-best mark of 5.11m, good for fifth-place.

The men's DMR team of seniors Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) and Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn), paired with junior Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South) and sophomore Jacob Pinkston (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) took runner-up honors in the relay. Much like the women's race, the Titans and Cardinals battled throughout the event, but NCC edged the Green and White in the final leg.

In the men's and women's long jump, three Titans earned All-CCIW honors. Junior Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) took the last spot on the podium, third-place, in a competitive event. Posting a mark of 5.52m, Ogunribido earned all-conference honors for the ninth time in her career. Junior Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) finished in fourth-place in men's long jump, leaping 6.75m, Freshman Amir Byrd (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) was impressive in his first league championship, posting a career-best mark 6.72m and earning fifth.

Senior Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) earned All-CCIW honors by way of a career-best time in the women's 5000m. Sprinting to the finish line, Quinn beat out several competitors on her final lap to earn all-conference honors for the first time during the indoor season.

The men's and women's prelims for the 60m and 60m hurdles were also contested on Friday. Senior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) advanced to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 28 in the 60m hurdles. Ogunribidio and junior Olivia Skibinski (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) also advanced to the finals in the women's 60m, while sophomore Nyamedze Maison (Groveland, Ill.-Morton) made it to the men's 60m finals.

Action continues tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 28 from the Shirk Center for the conclusion of the CCIW Championships. A link to live results can be found here, while a live stream will be found here. The first event is scheduled for 11 a.m.
