Three Titans in Top-10, Men’s Golf Takes Third at Wabash Invite

IWU wraps up fall season at Golfweek later this month

INDIANAPOLIS - A birdie on the final hole lifted the fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Wabash College Fall Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the par-72, 6908-yard Broadmoor Country Club. IWU posted a three-day score of 851, while the 'B' team claimed sixth at 871.

In all, three Titans placed in the top-10 and six finished inside the top-20. Junior Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) led the way with a third-place finish, carding a final round 71 to complete the tournament at six-under. Sophomore Ben Gelven (St. Louis, Mo.-Mary Institute and Country Day School) tied for fourth after shooting IWU's best round of the day with a two-under, 70. Both Castro and Gelven were honored as part of the all-tournament team.

Freshman Sam Uutala (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) turned in his first top-10 finish of his career, Uutala took ninth at three-under. He was one of five Titans to shoot under par on the day, joining Castro, Gelven, sophomores Hunter Whitney (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield) and Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville).

Second-ranked Kenyon used a three-under to climb atop the leaderboard and nab the team title at 846. No. 6 Carnegie Mellon placed second at 848, while Illinois Wesleyan took third. Third-ranked Emory rounded out the top-four (852).

Illinois Wesleyan completes its fall season in Sandestin, Fla. for the Golfweek October Classic, Oct. 18-20.
