Women’s Wrestling Collects Three All-CCIW Nods at CCIW Championships

Titans post 12 wins on the day

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's wrestling team collected 12 wins at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship hosted by Elmhurst University, Sunday, Jan. 25, highlighted by three All-CCIW awardees.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by freshman Jillian Giller (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier) and sophomore Alivia Davey (Ripon, Wis.-Berlin) who each earned second-place finishes. Freshman Angel Hill (San Diego, Calif.-Mira Mesa) also earned all-conference recognition with a third-place finish at 207 pounds.

Giller won on a 10-2 decision in the semifinals against Kelly Ladd of Augustana. Hill opened her day with a 10-0 technical fall over Hannah McDuffie of Aurora University advance to the semifinals. Seconds later, Davey earned her second pin of the season with a defeat of Jasmin Ocampo of Carthage College, earning her spot in the semis. 

In the semifinals, Davey scored with under a minute left to book a 9-8 decision against Augustana College's Angie Guy.  After Hill dropped her semifinal match, Hill defeated Ocampo via a 14-2 technical fall to advance to the third place match where she pinned McDuffie. 

Freshman 160-pounder Kennedy Murray (Evanston, Ill.-Evanston) and sophomore 180-pounder Sifa Feruzi (Denver, Colo.-Macomb) wrapped up their conference slates with fifth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Freshmen Leslie Guzman (Fort Worth, Texas.-South Hills) and Kimani Glasper (Chicago, Ill.-Westinghouse) completed their first conference tournament with a seventh-place finish at 103 and 124 pounds, respectively.

Freshman Alila Beck (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) was Illinois Wesleyan's recipient of the CCIW Respect Award. 

The Titans are back in action, Sunday, Feb. 1 at home for a dual against Eureka College. Action from the Shirk Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.
