Track & Field Completes Aurora Grand Prix

Titans take home 10 top-10 finishes

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams registered 10 top-10 finishes at the Aurora Grand Prix Saturday, Jan. 24. IWU collected seven top-five finishes, highlighted by one event win.

Junior Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) posted Illinois Wesleyan's lone win of the day, taking home the triple jump title with a leap of 12.01m. Freshman Tori Brown (Glasford, Ill.-Illini Bluffs) placed third in the event at a season-best 11.08m, while Ogunribido's day also included a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash (7.91).

Freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger (Hickory Hills-Stagg), the reigning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin field athlete of the week, claimed runner-up in the high jump. The rookie cleared 1.62m in a field of 30+ competitors.

Illinois Wesleyan took second in the 4x200m relay, as senior Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), freshman Mallory Short (Lincoln, Ill.-Lincoln), senior Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park), and freshman Lydia McIntyre (Hudson, Ill.-Normal Community) raced through in 1:46.08.

On the men's side, seniors Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic), and junior Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) notched third-place finishes. Lowder came in third in the 400m behind a 48.86 effort. Whitaker's top-three placement in pole vault came behind a 4.45m clearance. Also notching a third-place finish, Lindberg converted 1.91m in the high jump. 

Senior Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) nearly missed a top-10 placement, finishing 11th in the men's mile run. His time of 4:19.04 is the fifth-best on the program's all-time top-10 list and marks a personal best.

Also adding top-10 finishes were sophomore Kamden Reynolds (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community), senior Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist), and freshman Amir Byrd (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic). Reynolds raced to a seventh-place effort in the 60m hurdles. Quinn snagged eight-place in the 5000m with a time of 19:35.06 and Byrd collected ninth in the long jump (6.47m).

Illinois Wesleyan will split next weekend with a contingent traveling to the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31. Meanwhile, the Titans will host the Jason Dennis Memorial meet Friday, Jan. 30, inside the Shirk Center.
