Track & Field Claims 10 Victories at Coach Shoe Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams racked up 10 individual wins at the Coach Shoe Invitational inside the Shirk Center Saturday, Jan. 17. In the second of six home indoor meets, the Titans set 44 personal-best marks. 

In the non-traditional 1200m race, senior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) notched a victory and the best time in program history, crossing the finish line in 3:45.23. Junior Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) was close behind, finishing in 3:48.55, good for second on the program's all-time top-10 list. 

Senior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) took the title in the men's mile for the second consecutive meet, finishing one second off his career-best time at, 4:31.83. Senior Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) crossed in a personal-best time of 11:20.85 in the women's 3000m, good for a runner-up finish. In the men's 800m, sophomore Jacob Pinkston (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) racked up a win with a time of 1:59.02. 

In the men's 60m hurdles, sophomore Kamden Reynolds (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) took the title in a time of 8.78, and senior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) followed close behind with a time of 8.85. Freshman Lydia McIntyre (Hudson, Ill.-Normal University) earned runner-up honors in the women's 60m, crossing the finish line in 8.11. Sophomore Nyamedze Maison (Groveland, Ill.-Morton) was just .01 second behind the winner in the men's 60m, finishing with a time of 7.12. Junior Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) crossed in 7.14 in third place. 

Continuing in sprints, freshman Cameron Rask (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) claimed a victory in the men's 200m, crossing the line in 23.11. Fellow freshman Dylan Hodges (Sycamore, Ill.-Sycamore) followed in the runner-up position with a time of 23.35. Senior Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) and sophomore Alex Maas (Heyworth, Ill.-Heyworth) each recorded second-place finishes in the 400m with times of 1:01.11 and 53.22, respectively.

In field events, Green took the title in the long jump with an indoor personal best jump, 6.85. Green continues his reign in the seventh position in the program's all-time top 10 list, inching closer to the sixth spot. Freshman Amir Byrd (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) jumped 6.60m in the event for runner-up honors. 

Junior Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park), who already owns the top spot in Division III women's triple jump this season, added another meet win to her resume, jumping 12.06m and besting the field by over two inches. Senior Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) earned a second-place finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.41m. 

In the women's high jump, freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger (Hickory Hills, Ill.-Stagg) moved up in the national ranks in her second collegiate meet, clearing a height of 1.65m which ranks seventh in Division III. Her mark of 5'5" moves her into third on the program's all-time top-10 list. Senior Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) notched a second-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 1.95m. 

Sophomore Sophia Baczak (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) cleared 2.82m, which was good for a win in the women's pole vault, while senior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) earned a runner-up finish in the men's pole vault with a 4.27m mark. 

In throwing events, junior Lauryn Moore (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) earned her first victory of the season with a throw of 10.97m in the women's shot put. 

The Titans were victorious in both the men's and women's 4x400m relays. The men's team of Hodges, Maas, Green, and junior Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South) crossed the finish line in a time of 3:29.14, besting the Illinois Wesleyan 'B' squad by six seconds. In the women's 4x400m relay, Crabtree raced down the stretch in the final leg to beat out second-place Elmhurst by less than two seconds. Gonzalez, sophomore Caroline Hill (Bement, Ill.-Bement), and freshman Mallory Short (Lincoln, Ill.-Lincoln), teamed up with Crabtree to cross the finish line in 4:10.23.

IWU hits the road for the first time this season, competing in the Aurora Grand Prix Saturday, Jan. 24, in Chicago, Ill.
