Men’s Golf Climbs Leaderboard on Day Two of Division III Preview

Illinois Wesleyan records low round of the day

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team catapulted up the leaderboard in round two of the NCAA Division III Preview, hosted at Mission Inn Resort & Club, Monday, Sept. 22. The Titans, who started the day in 22nd-place, rose 12 spots to 10th-place after their second round, six-under, 282 at the par-72, 6750-yard El Campeon course.

Senior Myles Lahart (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) tied his career-best round with a four-under 68, aided by a five-under 32 on his first nine holes. Senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) and sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) also recorded under-par rounds for the Green and White, each carding a two-under, 70. Lahart and Castro lead the Titans in a tie for 33rd-place. Oglethorpe's Jackson Hiller continues to lead the individual leaderboard at nine-under par.

No. 3 Oglethorpe jumped into the lead on the team side, sitting at three-under for the tournament. No. 6 Emory, No. 2 Carnegie Mellon, No. 7 Methodist, and No. 9 Aurora round out the top-five. The Titans' team score of 282 was the lowest of the field on Monday, as they were one of two teams to shoot under par in round two.
