Men’s Golf On Top with 18 to Play at National Championship

Titans lead by five strokes over Washington and Lee

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team leads by five strokes after three rounds at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship. The Titans carded a third round even-par to extend their lead at the par 72, 6778-yard El Campeón Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Thursday, May 14.

The Green and White, sitting at five-under for the tournament, lead Washington and Lee by five strokes with 18 holes to play. Kenyon is in third-place at one-over. Aurora and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are chasing in a tie for fourth-place at two-over par for the tournament.

In his penultimate round repping the Green and White, senior Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln Way-Central) captained the Titan squad. Bai finished with a one-under 71 to vault up the leaderboard into 13th-place with a 54-hole score of 214. 

Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) is also one-under for the tournament (214) after his third round of even-par 72. Castro finished with two birdies in his final six holes and is in a tie for 13th-place. 

In the leadoff spot, senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) began his round with an eagle on hole one and recorded four additional birdies to finish with a one-under par, 71. The senior moved into 16th-place at 215 for the tournament. 

Freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) is the fourth Titan within the top-25 individually, as he is in a tie for 24th-place with a 54-hole total of 217. Andrews carded a third round score of two-over 74.

Adrian Jordan of Kenyon and Alan Van Asch of Lynchburg share the individual lead at seven-under par. 

Illinois Wesleyan looks to earn its third national title in seven seasons with 18 holes to play Friday, May 15. Tee times will be released here.
