Men’s Golf Holds Lead Following Day Two of National Championship

Titans finished with nine-under 279 second round

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team impressed on day two of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship Wednesday, May 13. The Titans carded a nine-under 279 at the par 72, 6778-yard El Campeon Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort + Club to take the lead. Play was suspended due to darkness for several teams left on the course. 

The Titans are firmly in the lead by three strokes with two rounds to play. One grouping remains on the course to finish the final hole of round one. 

The Green and White recorded its lowest round in program history in the national championship. In a total team effort on day two, all five Titans are within three shots of each other on the individual side. The group recorded 15 birdies to seven bogeys. Senior Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way-East) and sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) paced IWU with matching scores of three-under 69. 

Seniors Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln Way-Central) and Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) also recorded rounds under par in round two, turning in scores of two-under 70 and one-under 71, respectively.

Healy leads IWU with a two-under 36-hole total of 141. Castro comes in at one-under 142, while Bai and freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) are at even-par 143.
