JOLIET, Ill. & LA CROSSE. Wis. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams took full advantage of the University of St. Francis (Ill.) and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse final qualifiers, Friday, May 9. Junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) ran a new outdoor 400-meter school record at the Uncaged Eagle Open and senior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) moved up to No. 2 for IWU all-time in the 800m with his performance at the USF Fighting Chance Invite. A few Titans are set to return to St. Francis tomorrow, Saturday, May 10.

Uncaged Eagle Open
Lowder clocked a 46.55-second run in the 400m to finish second in the field, but tied for third-best in Division III this season and ranks 25th in Division III all-time. Lowder becomes the only Titan in program history to run the event in under 47 seconds, as he sets a new school record previously held by Matt Harden (47.02) since 2007. Additionally, Lowder's time sets a new College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin open record in the event, previously held by North Central's Michael Stanley from 2021 (46.74).

Sophomore Reece Dusek (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) turned in a sixth-place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.77 seconds.

Lowder and Dusek later teamed up with sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) and senior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) for the men's 4-by-400m relay where they posted a time of 3:13.57 to finish fifth in the loaded field.

Waterson utilized a strong second lap in the men's 800m at St. Francis, moving up two spots in the final 400m to finish second in his section and clock a 1:51.48, a personal-best for the senior and a mark that moves him up to second all-time in program history. The time also moves him up to No. 26 in Division III this season.
