PENFIELD, N.Y. - With the fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team closing in on the turn of the final round of play at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, play was suspended due to darkness Thursday, May 22. Illinois Wesleyan will head into the final day two strokes off the lead with an overall score of 1037.

Top-ranked Methodist put together a strong start to the final round, firing a nine-under so far, to move ahead of IWU. MU has played more than half the final round and ended the day through six holes shy of a complete round. Second-ranked Washington & Lee, which is even closer to completing play, sits third. No. 3 Emory and 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon round out the top-five. Lynchburg's Edward Coffren leads the player leaderboard at seven-under par, with two holes left to finish out his 72-hole tour.

Junior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) and senior Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) each sit inside the top-20 individually. Spitzer, who has nine holes to play, is two-under through the front nine of the final round and sits tied for 10th at four-over for the tournament. Pohl will look to climb into the top-10 over his final 10 holes tomorrow, as he currently holds a share of 15th at five-over par.

Final round action is scheduled for tomorrow, May 23, with play resuming at 7:45 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available through the Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
