Track and Field Concludes Gibson Invitational

IWU posts 12 top-10 finishes at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – On the final day of the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. Saturday, April 19, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams braved the rainy and cold conditions to come away with one event win and 11 other top-10 finishes in the meet hosted by Indiana State University.


Junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) had the sole event win on day three for the Titans after posting a 47.30-second effort in the men's 400-meter to top the field. A season-best time for the junior, Lowder currently sits ninth across Division III this season in the event. Lowder later came back to clock a 21.68 effort in the 200m, where he finished eighth overall. 

Sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) turned in a season-best leap in the triple jump of 11.98m (39'3.75"), finishing third in the event. Ogunribido cracked the national top-10 rankings, moving up to the No. 9 spot.

In the men's triple jump, sophomore Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) had a fourth-place finish with his jump of 13.83m (45'4.50"), a mark that sits ninth-best in program history outdoors. 

A pair of fifth-place finishes came in the men's and women's hammer throw, in seniors CJ Ladewig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) and Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth). Ladewig's best throw of the day came in at 50.69m (166'3") while King had a mark of 52.03m (170'8").

IWU picked up the eighth-place spot in both men's and women's 800m races as senior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) clocked a 1:54.07 and sophomore Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) turned in a 2:17.55. 

Sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) had an eighth-place finish in the men's long jump with a 6.55m (21'6") leap. Freshman Nick Walker (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) turned in an outdoor-best jump of 1.95m (6'4.75") to place ninth in the meet. Walker ties for tenth in program history alongside teammate Matt Lindberg. 

Walker later teamed up with sophomores Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South) and Luke Alberstett (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah) and freshman Keagan Uphoff (McLean, Ill.-Olympia) for a ninth-place finish in the men's 4-by-400m relay, posting a time of 3:26.24.

The women's 4-by-400m relay squad of junior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High), sophomore Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community), freshman Kelsey Moore (Arcola, Ill.-Arcola), and senior Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn) turned in an eighth-place finish in a time of 4:07.14. 

Freshman Sopha Baczak (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) had a personal-best bar clearance of 3.15m (10'4") in the women's pole vault to take hold of the No. 10 spot in program history.

Illinois Wesleyan is set to travel to Monmouth College Tuesday, April 22 for a midweek meet. Events inside April Zorn Memorial Stadium are set for a 4 p.m. start.
