Spitzer’s Top-10 Finish Leads Men’s Golf at Cochran Collegiate

CORDOVA, Tenn. - Three Titans finished in the top-20 and the fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team placed fourth at the 18-team Cochran Collegiate Tuesday, April 15. The Green and White fired a final round score of 304 to complete the 54-hole event with a total of 916 at Colonial Country Club.

Junior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) carded a final round one-over 73 to climb into ninth place. Spitzer notched birdies on the first and 17th holes along with an eagle on the par-four ninth hole. He finished 11-over for the tournament.

Senior Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) grabbed a share of 17th (229), while junior Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) took 20th (230).

Sixth-ranked Oglethorpe jumped two spots on the final day to top the field with a score of 899. Lynchburg finished runner up (904) and Babson placed third (913). Mary Hardin-Baylor finished six strokes behind IWU in fifth (922). Hampden-Sydney's Nick Rubino carded rounds of 72, 75, and 73 to win the tournament with a score of 220, finishing four-over par.

Illinois Wesleyan prepares for its final regular season tournament of the year as the Titans travel to Decatur, Ill. for the Take Back the Night Challenge. The event is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, April 25-26.
