King Sets New School Record in Weight Throw

Three Titans move up in program top-10 lists

NORMAL, Ill. & PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field team opened its weekend of competition Friday, April 11, at The Normal Invite hosted by Illinois State University, with a new school record in the women's weight throw by senior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth). Friday's competition was capped off under the lights of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invite in Platteville, Wis. as three Titans moved up on the program top-10 lists in the 5,000m. 

The Normal Invite
King belted out a 53.94m (177'0") throw in the event, good for the top mark in the Division I field by over 16 feet. With her throw today, King surpassed the previous school record by over a foot, a mark that was set in 2018 by Karly Goodman. King currently holds the fifth-best throw in Division III this season and leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin by eight feet.

In the men's weight throw, senior CJ Ladewig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) turned in a third-place finish with a 51.69m (169'7") toss. 

Sophomore Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South) won the men's 200m collegiate B section with a 22.60-second run. Senior teammate Joel Weber (Roanoke, Ill.-Roanoke-Benson) finished third at 23.23 seconds. 

UW-Platteville Invite
The men's distance duo of senior Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) and junior Zack Daniel (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) had a career night in Wisconsin, as both moved up in the program's all-time list. Fisch cut nearly 12 seconds off his previous best time, finishing in 15:07.87 to rank fifth in program history. Daniel shaved five seconds off his personal-best, clocking a 15:30.50 to sit eighth on IWU's top-10 list. 

Senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) was the last Titan to compete in Platteville, posting a new personal-best time in the women's 5,000m of 17:46.82. Cutting nearly four seconds off her career-best, Chudy moves up to sixth all-time in IWU laurels.

Illinois Wesleyan will send a larger group to compete on day two of The Normal Invite Saturday, April 12. Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m. at Redbird Track and Field Complex while running events will kick off at noon.
