Track and Field Splits for Last Chance Weekend

Distance headed to Wartburg, sprints and jumps to UW-La Crosse

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams will send individuals to Wartburg College and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Saturday, March 8 for a pair of final qualifier meets in an effort to solidify marks to the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships, March 14-15, in Rochester, N.Y.

The Titans are coming off a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship weekend, Feb. 28-March 1, that saw IWU claim six individual titles and 34 All-CCIW finishes. The Illinois Wesleyan men finished second as a team with their highest point total in program history at 118. The women finished third as a team with 77 points.

Illinois Wesleyan will send two to Wartburg's last chance meet as senior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) and junior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) will race the men's and women's mile, respectively. Both Titans turned in runner-up finishes at the conference championships in the mile last Saturday. The women's mile in Waverly, Iowa is set for a 2:20 p.m. start with the men's race to follow at 2:40 p.m.

Heading up to La Crosse, Wis. is junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Reece Dusek (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) both in the 200m and 400m while sophomore Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and freshman Nick Walker (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) will compete in the men's high jump. Both the high jump and running events are set for a 1 p.m. start.

Lowder won the men's 400m at the conference championships as the only runner to come in under 50 seconds (48.88) before claiming the 4-by-400m title alongside Dusek, Walker and senior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg). Walker claimed the CCIW title in the men's high jump with four straight personal-best bars to win the competition just ahead of Lindberg who finished second. Walker also earned All-CCIW honors in the long jump and Dusek claimed all-conference accolades in the 400 and 200m races.

IWU currently has six student-athletes ranked in the top-25 in Division III in individual events. Lowder ranks 24th in the 400 (48.88), Walker is 11th in the high jump (2.05m, 6'8.75") with Lindberg sitting 20th (2.04m, 6'8.25"). Sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) sits fifth in the women's triple jump (12.8m, 40'3.5"), senior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth) is 16th in the women's weight throw (17.62m, 57'9.75"), and sophomore Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) ranks 25th in the men's triple jump (14.30m, 46'11").

The top-20 declared student-athletes in each individual event and the top-12 declared relay teams qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The NCAA and USTFCCCA will announce its final qualifiers list on Sunday, March 9.
