Jackson Leads Men’s Wrestling at Brown Terrell UD Invite

Jackson and Blanton each pick up wins

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team traveled a limited squad to the Brown Terrell UD Invite in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday, Feb. 8 and was highlighted by a second-place finish from sophomore Alexander Jackson (Harvey, Ill.-Bremen) in the 285 pound weight class.

Jackson needed less than 40 seconds to pin Hunter Hahn of Dubuque in his first bout of the day (0:39) at 285 pounds. A pin in the quarterfinals over Noah Carl of Cornell (1:58) pit Jackson against Mason Kochersperger of Carthage in the semifinal round. The sophomore secured his third pin of the day against Kochersperger in 1:16 to advance to the 285 championship match where he ultimately placed second after falling to Austin Cooley of Schreiner in a 10-0 major, and finished 3-1 on the day. 

Wrestling in the 165-pound bracket, freshman Lucas Blanton (Dixon, Ill.-Amboy) bounced back from a loss in his first match with a pin over Elijah Matzke of UW-Oshkosh (5:50). Blanton claimed his second win of the day in a narrow 3-2 decision over Scott Graves, who was competing unattached before falling to Nick Cheshier of Chicago in a 10-4 decision to close out his day with a 2-2 record.

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action Friday, Feb. 14 for the CCIW Futures Championships and Saturday, Feb. 15 for the CCIW Championships, both hosted by Millikin University at the Griswold Center.
