Elder Sits Third in Heptathlon After Day One of Keck Select

Men’s heptathlon to continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University men's junior heptathlete Ashtin Elder (Chenoa, Ill.-Prairie Central) kicked off the Titans' largest home meet of the season, the Keck Select, with the men's heptathlon Friday night, Feb. 7 in the Shirk Center. After four events, Elder sits third with 2191 points heading into day two. 

Elder opened the men's heptathlon with the second-fastest time in the 60-meter dash field, clocking a personal-best of 7.39 seconds. 

The junior then went on to post a pair of third-place finishes in the long jump (5.60m, 18'4.50") and the shot put (9.57m, 31'4.75") to sit third in the multi standings with one event to go on the day. 

In the men's high jump, Elder turned in a 1.62m (5'3.75") clearance good for fourth in the event. Elder closed out the day one of the heptathlon with 2191 points and sits third overall heading into day two.

Three events remain in the men's heptathlon: the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m. The hurdles will kick off Saturday at 9 a.m. with Illinois Wesleyan's senior day recognition set for 10 a.m. Open field and running events will follow at 10:45 a.m.
