Men’s Wrestling Concludes NCAA Regional

Today ends Men’s season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team concluded its season at the NCAA Division III Region VI Championships, Friday, Feb. 28 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

IWU sent eight Titans to represent the Green and White in Iowa. Sophomore Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) recorded his 20th career pin in the first round of the consolation bracket over Elliot Cooney of Cornell at 5:53. The sophomore turned in a 1-2 record on the day at 141-pounds.

Sophomore Jeremy Olson (Tremont, Ill.-Tremont), wrestling at 174-pounds picked up a 2:23 pin in his second round over Joey Alvarado of Schreiner. Sophomore Alex Jackson (Harvey, Ill.-Bremen) and senior Bobby Conroy (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University High) both picked up bout wins after falling in their opening matches. Jackson needed just under a minute to pin Steven Flagg of Huntingdon to finish the day 1-2 at 285 pounds while Conroy won by a 13-2 major decision over Thomas Culp of Eureka in the 184-pound weight class.

The conclusion of today ends the careers of seniors Conroy, Leonardo Reyes (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno), and Omar AlQammaz (Orland Park, Ill.-Victor A. Andrew)
