Women’s Track and Field Readies for CCIW Championships

Championship meet set to take place in Kenosha, Wis.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team is set to take on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28- March 1 in Kenosha, Wis. Hosted by Carthage College, events will kick off at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with competition continuing into Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. start time.

Looking back to last year's CCIW Indoor Championships, the Titans came away with four conference crowns and 11 All-CCIW honorees totaling 87 points for fourth-place. Then-sophomore Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) claimed three titles a year ago, winning both the mile and 3000m in addition to anchoring the winning distance medley relay alongside the-sophomores Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Brooke Nazos (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) and then-freshman Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community). Then-freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) won the triple jump event by almost a two-foot margin.

Crabtree and Ogunribido enter this weekend's championships with three conference-leading marks. Crabtree owns the top marks in the mile at 4:59.41 and in the 3000m with a time of 10:09.96. Crabtree's mile time tops the field by four seconds while her 3k time is the fastest by six seconds. Ogunribido, who has already broken the school record in the triple jump twice this season, leads the CCIW by more than eight inches. 

The Titans also hold top-three spots in four additional events. Going into the weekend sitting second in their events are seniors Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) in the 5000m (18:11.15) and Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth) in the weight throw (17.62m, 57'9.75") and freshman Alex Reinhart (Normal, Ill.-Normal) in the 800m (2:15.25). Senior Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn) rounds out the top-three seeds for IWU in the mile (5:09.23).

Illinois Wesleyan was predicted to finish fourth in the annual CCIW Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll. The Titans totaled 41 points while Elmhurst topped the poll with 63 points and seven first-place votes. North Central, reining CCIW Champions for the past five seasons, was picked to finish second with 58 points and two first-place nods and Augustana rounded out the top-three with 49 points. The CCIW Championships in Kenosha, Wis. will kick off on Friday, Feb. 28 at 10:30 a.m. inside Carthage's Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center. Saturday's competition will pick up at 9:30 a.m. with the multi events. Adult admission is $10 per day, while admission for seniors (65+), students and children ages 6-14 is $5 per day. Children ages 5 and younger will receive free admission. Current students at a CCIW institution will receive free admission when presenting a student ID.
