Track and Field Splits for Two-Meet Weekend

Small group headed to GVSU Big Meet Friday, larger squad to Monmouth Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams will send a limited squad to the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday, Feb. 14 in Allendale, Mich. with a larger group headed to Monmouth, Ill. for the Roger Haynes Invitational Saturday, Feb. 15. 

The Titans are coming off hosting a two-day meet that saw 15 top-five finishes and three event wins for the Green and White at the Keck DIII Select, Feb, 7-8. Seven Titans moved up in the program's top-10 list across eight events with their performances at the Keck DIII Select. 

Senior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa Forsyth) produced a new school record mark with a 17.62m (57'9.75") weight throw that sits second in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and ranks 15th in Division III this season. Additionally, throwing her first shot put of the season, King broke into the program's top-10 list at No. 8 (11.29m, 37'0.50"). Sophomore Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) improved his career-best mark and claimed a first-place finish in the event with a 2.04m (6'8.25") clearance. The mark ranks second in the CCIW, 15th in Division III this season, and sits fifth in IWU's record book. 

Also moving into the program's top-10 list were seniors, Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) in the 60m, Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) in the 5000m, Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Chrisitan Academy) in the mile, junior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) in the 3000m and freshman Alex Reinhart (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) in the 800m. 

Just two weeks out from the conference championships meet, IWU owns 23 top-five marks across 16 events. Claiming top performances in the league currently is Crabtree in the mile and 3000m and sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) in the triple jump.

Illinois Wesleyan will send eight men to Michigan to compete in individual events. Competing for the Green and White this Friday will be Harvey in the 60m hurdles, Fisch and freshman Jack Thomas (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) in the 5000m, Lindberg in the high jump, senior CJ Ladewig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) in the weight throw, junior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) in the pole vault, and junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and sophomore Reece Dusek (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) in the 400m.

On the women's side, five Titans will compete in individual events including King in the weight throw, Crabtree in the mile, Reinhart in the 800m, Ogunribido in the triple jump, and senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) in the 5000m.

The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams will send a larger squad to the Roger Haynes Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15 hosted by Monmouth College. Competition on Friday at GVSU is set for an 8:30 a.m. ET start while Saturday's meet at Monmouth will kick off at 10:45 a.m.
