Twelve Titans Notch Wins in First Chance Meet

Four individuals climb onto program’s all-time top 10 list

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams got the season off to a hot start at the Titan First Chance Meet at the Shirk Center indoor track Friday night, Dec. 5. Twelve Titans claimed victories in the first meet of the 2025-26 season, while 30 personal bests were also set. 

In the women's 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Kelsey Moore (Arcola, Ill.-Arcola) improved on her personal best from the prelims to the finals, garnering runner-up honors with a time of 9.57. Additionally in sprints, freshman Lydia McIntyre (Hudson, Ill.-Normal University) earned a third-place finish in the 60 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 8.01. 

Senior Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and junior Olivia Skibinski (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods) went one-two in the 200 meters, with times of 26.43 and 26.54, respectively. Junior Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) bested the field in the 400 meters, finishing in 59.77, her first time running under one minute in the event. Freshman Grace Grant (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South) competed in the 800 meters, earning a runner-up finish with a personal-best time 2:43.55. 

In field events, reigning NCAA Division III outdoor triple jump champion, junior Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) swept the long jump and triple jump events. In the long jump, Ogunribido earned a spot on the program's all-time top 10 list, leaping a personal-best 5.60m, good for eighth in program history. In the triple, Ogunribido beat out freshman teammate Tori Brown (Glasford, Ill.-Illini Bluffs), jumping 12.53 meters. Brown claimed runner-up honors with a jump of 11.08 meters. 

In her collegiate debut, freshman Gwendolyn Boettinger (Hickory Hills, Ill.-Stagg) impressed in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.63 meters, good for a runner-up finish and sixth on the Titan all-time top 10 list. In pole vault, sophomore Sophia Baczak (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) cleared 2.97 meters and also earned a second place finish. 

Sophomore Kamden Reynolds (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) ran a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, 8.63 seconds, claiming first place in the event. Junior Cole Marshall (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) ran the third fastest time in program history in the 60 meters, crossing the finish line in under seven seconds (6.97), good for second place in the event. Sophomore Nyamedze Maison (Groveland, Ill.-Morton) claimed fourth in the 60 meter, running 7.06 which placed seventh on the program's all-time top 10 list. Marshall also finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.22. 

Senior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) picked up where he left off last season, notching a win in the 400 meters, crossing with a time of 49:34. Freshman Dylan Hodges (Sycamore, Ill.-Sycamore) claimed second of 29 competitors in the event with a time of 50.88 in his collegiate track and field debut. Junior Reece Dusek (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) defeated the field in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:02.81.

In distance events, senior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) notched a win in the mile, beating out the competition by just a second and crossing the line in 4:37.17. In the 3000 meter race, senior Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) beat out fellow senior and teammate Zack Daniel (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) by three seconds (9:05.45) in a career-best effort. 

The Green and White men's squad dominated the field events as well, as senior Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) notched a victory in the triple jump, leaping 13.72 meters. Junior captain Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) narrowly missed a spot in the win column, as he earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 6.58 meters. Junior Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) won the high jump event, clearing 1.95 meters. 

Senior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) won the pole vault event as he cleared 4.27 meters, while sophomore Sam Churchill (Seneca, Ill.-Seneca) earned second place with a 4.11 meter mark. 

IWU finished off the meet by claiming victories in the men's and women's 4x400 meter relays, as the women's squad of freshman Mallory Short (Lincoln, Ill.-Lincoln), Griffin, Huber, and senior Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) crossed the finish line in 4:13.73. On the men's side, the Titan team of Dusek, freshman Justin Trammell (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone), senior Joel Weber (Roanoke Ill.-Roanoke-Benson), and sophomore Alex Maas (Heyworth, Ill.-Heyworth) finished first in 3:31.90.

Illinois Wesleyan will take the rest of December off before returning to the Shirk Center for the Coach Shoe Invitational Saturday, January 17. The meet will serve as senior day and the alumni meet for the Titans.
