Swim and Dive Takes on Two-Day Wheaton Invite

Prelims start at 9:30 a.m, Friday, Dec. 5

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive team will travel to Wheaton, Ill., for the two-day Wheaton Invite, hosted by Wheaton College. The invite is set to take place Friday-Saturday, Dec. 5-6 inside Jonathan Leaderhouse Natatorium. Preliminary rounds start at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, with finals to follow in the evening at 5 p.m.. 

The Titans return to the pool after a two week hiatus, most recently having competed in the Beloit Midseason Invitational Friday-Saturday, Nov. 21-22. The women's team took home the title behind seven individual crowns. In total, the Green and White registered 18 personal-best times. 

Senior Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) took first in the 400-yard individual medley, while freshman Ellen Hoover (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) won the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Abby Schnittker (Lombard, Ill.-Willowbrook) won the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 100-yard butterfly. Senior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) took first in the 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events.

On the men's side, sophomore Ben Huk (Des Plaines, Ill.-Maine West) notched the top time in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. Senior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora) recorded the best time in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) took gold in the 200 fly. Sophomore Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) registered the best time in the 500 free. 

Illinois Wesleyan owns eight times in the top-three among College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin swimmers this season. 

Porter sits third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.98, and in the 500 free (5:21.87). She holds the best time in the 1650 free, as she clocked in at 18:20.54, five seconds ahead of the next best time. Junior Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) is third in the 50-yard backstroke, as she has helped get the Green and White off to a fast start behind a time of 29.57. She is also third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.06). Schnittker ranks third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.01. Hoover's time of 2:19.21 is good for third in the 200 fly. In the 400 IM, Kuschewski holds the third-best time, having clocked in at 4:54.27.
