Swim and Dive Wraps Up Day One of Wheaton Invite

Titans register 10 top-15 finishes

WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up day one of the two-day Wheaton Invite, hosted by Wheaton College Friday, Dec. 5. IWU registered 10 top-15 finishes on the opening day. 


Freshman Abby Schnittker (Lombard, Ill.-Willowbrook) used a personal-best effort in the 100-yard freestyle prelims to secure a spot in the final, as she touched at 54.69. The freshman continued her strong swim in the afternoon, as she bested her mark to finish sixth in the loaded field behind a time of 54.66.

Freshman Ellen Hoover (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville Central) locked in a spot in the 200-yard individual medley final, as she touched in with a personal-best time of 2:20.30 in the preliminary rounds. The freshman followed up with another career-best time, as she finished 10th in the event after touching at 2:19.79.

Senior Natalie Porter (Danville, Ill.-Danville) posted the sixth-best time in the 500-yard freestyle, as she clocked in at 5:24.67. Junior Claire Paule (Godfrey, Ill.-Antioch) claimed a top-15 spot in the event to join Porter in the finals. Porter found herself in the 100-yard breaststroke finals behind a personal-best time of 1:14.18 in prelims, propelling her to a 12th-place finish in the event. 

Junior Sam Borre (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) notched a seventh place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, as she touched at 2:16.11. She also tallied a top-15 finish in the 200 IM. 

On the men's side, sophomore Jacob Nacional (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) finished 11th in the 200-yard butterfly, as he clocked in at 2:04.49.

Fellow sophomore Tate Thomas (Joliet, Ill.-Joliet West) turned in a top-15 finish in the 500 free, as he clocked in at 4:57.04, shaving four seconds off his preliminary time. 

Senior Jay Jenkins (Aurora, Ill.-West Aurora) logged a top-15 time in the 200 back behind a 2:05.62 effort.

The Titans return to the pool Saturday morning, Dec. 6, to take on the preliminary rounds, which are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
