Men’s Golf Takes Second in Loaded Field in New York

Titans return to action in Indianapolis Oct. 7-8

eighthVICTOR, NY - Switching to Cobblestone Creek Country Club for the final round of the NCAA Division III Preview, the fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team posted a four-over 292 Monday, Sept. 23, to grab a second-place finish.

Four top-20 placements powered the Titans to a runner-up showing, led by senior Griffin Pohl's (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) eighth-place finish. Pohl carded a final round 73 to card a 211 for the tournament and earn a share of eighth.

Junior Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West) and senior Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) each posted final round 74s to tie for 12th at 212. Junior Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) turned in IWU's best round of the day, a one-under 71, to earn a share of 18th at 214.

Third-ranked Emory won the event at 31-under par (833), with IWU claiming second at 845. No. 1 Methodist placed third (847) and No. 7 Washington & Lee (848) took fourth as the top-four remained unchanged. Second-ranked Carnegie Mellon climbed two spots to round out the top-five at 853. Methodist's Aiden Spampinato earned medalist honors at 17-under par (199).

Illinois Wesleyan enjoys some time off before heading to Indianapolis, Ind. for the Wabash Invite, Oct. 7-8. The two-day tournament will be played at Broadmoor Country Club.
