TEMPE, Ariz. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team saw five student-athletes earn the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Scholar-Athlete honor, while the program notched All-Academic Team honors, announced by the organization Wednesday, July 24.

Senior Macy Michorczyk (Franklin Park, Ill.-West Leyden), junior Valeria Rivera (Marengo, Ill.-Marengo), sophomore Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington Community), and freshmen Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Lily Huang (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Crystal Lake South) represented Illinois Wesleyan on the scholar-athlete squad.

In order to earn the Scholar-Athlete Award, one must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. For a team to earn All-Academic status, the program must have a team GPA of at least 3.2.

Michorczyk, the lone senior on IWU's squad, earns her second straight scholar-athlete award. A chemistry major, Michorczyk posted a 3.88 GPA during the 2023-24 season in which she appeared in 10 matches. The Franklin Park, Ill. also collected her second straight Academic All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honor to conclude her collegiate career.

A sociology major, Christian earns her second academic award from the ITA after posting a 3.93 GPA for the 2023-24 campaign. The Washington, Ill. native represented IWU on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, and earned her first Academic All-CCIW accolade. In singles action, splitting time between No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Christian posted an overall record of 8-10. A part of the pair at No. 2 doubles, Christian finished with a collective record of 7-11 in doubles action.

Coming off one of the best freshman campaigns in program history, Ehrlich earns her first academic honor after notching a 3.96 GPA as a finance major. A Second Team All-CCIW honor, Ehrlich was named the CCIW's Player of the Week Oct. 11, and was tabbed as the team's "Most Valuable Player" after playing at No. 1 singles and doubles. In singles action, Ehrlich posted an overall record of 11-6, recording a 5-4 mark in a rigorous CCIW slate. Playing as part of the No. 1 doubles, Ehrlich finished with an overall record of 8-10 in paired play.

Huang and Rivera each pick up their first academic honor after joining the Titans at the end of the fall season.

In the second year under head coach Jason Van Heuklon, the Titans earned All-Academic Team honors. IWU was one of seven CCIW schools to achieve the honor as a team, and one of 167 across Division III. Augustana College, Carroll University, Carthage College, Millikin University, North Central College, and Wheaton College joined IWU on the list to represent the conference.
