NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team landed three Titans on the All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin teams for the 2024 season announced by the league office Tuesday, April 30. Senior
Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) and sophomore
Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) were named to the All-CCIW First Team, while sophomore
Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) earned Second Team All-CCIW honors. Senior
Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates) was recognized as IWU's recipient of the CCIW RESPECT Award.
Maldonado is elevated to the First Team after earning Second Team All-CCIW honors a season ago. A three-time CCIW Offensive Player of the Week, and once named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week this season, Maldonado led the Green and White in scoring, posting 40 points composed of 14 goals and 26 assists in six CCIW games. Maldonado ranked second in the conference in points, points per game (6.67), assists, and assists per game (4.33), while continuing to be one of the most efficient shooters, as she scored on 60.9 percent of her shots in CCIW action. The senior broke a slew of records throughout the season, including the program's single-season points and assists record.
Earning her first conference honor, Riepe was one of the most dominant defensive players in the CCIW this season. The Aurora, Ill. native led the conference with 22 caused turnovers, with an average of 3.67 per game, and tied for the most ground balls with 21, an average of 3.50 per game. Riepe also contributed seven draw controls and two goals in CCIW contests.
Hanson earns her second straight Second Team All-CCIW honor. As a midfielder, Hanson was one of three players to rank in the top-10 in ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers in league play, as Hanson is joined by Carroll's Grace Tumilty and Samantha Hurd on the three lists. The Waukesha, Wis. native finished second in the CCIW in caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game with 21 and an average of 3.50, only trailing her own teammate. Hanson was fifth in the league with 19 ground balls, an average of 3.17 per game, and eighth with 23 draw controls, averaging 3.83 per game. The sophomore was twice named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week, earning the accolade March 12 and April 16.
The Titans return to action Wednesday night, May 1, in the CCIW Tournament Semifinals. Illinois Wesleyan, the three-seed, will travel to second-seeded Carthage College for a 6 p.m. start at Art Keller Field.
