Hanson Earns CCIW Defensive Player of the Week Accolade

Second weekly honor this season for the sophomore

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - For the second time this season, and the second in her career, sophomore Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league's office Tuesday, April 16. 

With Hanson's honor, the Titans are up to seven conference player of the week honorees this season. Senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) earned the offensive player of the week honor three straight weeks (March 5, March 12, March 19), while junior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) was the defensive player of the week honoree March 5, and Hanson previously earned the accolade March 12. 

Hanson put up a monstrous week for the Titans, April 8-13, including leading the Green and White to its first win over Carroll since 2019. For the week, Hanson finished with six goals on 10 shots total, averaging three goals per game, eight draw controls and eight caused turnovers, an average of four per game, and six ground balls, averaging three per game. 

Against Carthage Wednesday, April 10, Hanson posted a trio of ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls. The Waukesha, Wis. native was a key asset on both sides of the ball in the 11-9 victory over Carroll Saturday, April 13, starting at the draw where she finished with a team-high five. She also scored the final three goals of the game to lift the Titans past the Pios, as she finished with a career-high six goals for six points. Hanson also added a career-best five caused turnovers, along with three ground balls. 

Hanson and the Titans travel to Elmhurst University for a CCIW clash Wednesday, April 17. Action is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Langhorst Field.
