Maldonado Named IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Second Titan to earn national weekly award

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - After a sensational week, senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the organization Tuesday, March 19. Maldonado shares the offensive honor with Mary Manzsche of Salisbury University, while Salisbury's Natalie Held won the defensive accolade. 

The national award marks the first of Maldonado's career, and just the second in program history. She joins elite company, as Janaye Godfrey earned the defensive accolade March 9, 2021. 

Maldonado had a monstrous offensive showing that led the Titans to a 2-0 week. For the week, Maldonado finished with 28 points, an average of 14 points per game. She posted 22 assists, an average of 11 per game, and six goals, averaging three per game. Along with her dominance on offense, Maldonado finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls for the week. Of the 39 goals scored by the Titans for the week, Maldonado played a role in 28, which accounted for 72 percent of the scoring. 

In the 22-13 win over Linfield Tuesday, March 12, Maldondo shattered program records and etched her name in NCAA history. Her conference-record 17 points in the game ranks tied for third all-time in NCAA Division III history, and bettered her own program record that she bested by six points. She finished Tuesday's match with 14 assists, the most assists across Division I, II, and III, and five more than the second-most in Division III. The 14 helpers ranks tied for second all-time in Division III history, is a conference record, and is a seven-assist improvement over the previous program record. 

Maldonado continued her dominant week with an 11-point showing against Puget Sound Thursday, March 14, as the Titans capped off their spring break trip with a 17-6 victory. Her 11 points came by way of three goals and eight assists. 

Maldonado and the Titans return to action Wednesday, March 20, as IWU hosts Calvin University for a 7 p.m. contest inside Tucci Stadium.
