Maldonado & Fiandaca Sweep CCIW Player of the Week Honors

Marks the third straight week two Titans have garnered the award

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - For the third straight week, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team saw two players earn College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week honors. Senior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant) as the offensive player of the week, while junior Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East) was named the defensive player of the week, announced by the league Tuesday, March 19. 
Maldonado put on an offensive showing that led the Titans to a 2-0 week, earning her the offensive honor for the third straight week, the fourth in her career. For the week, Maldonado finished with 28 points, an average of 14 points per game. She posted 22 assists, an average of 11 per game, and six goals, averaging three per game. Along with her dominance on offense, Maldonado finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls for the week. Of the 39 goals scored by the Titans for the week, Maldonado played a role in 28, which accounts for 72 percent of the scoring. 
In the 22-13 win over Linfield Tuesday, March 12, Maldondo shattered program records and etched her name in NCAA history. Her conference record 17 points in the game ranks tied for third all-time in NCAA Division III history, and bested her own program record by six points. She finished Tuesday's match with 14 assists, the most assists across Division I, II, and III, and five more than the second-most in Division III. The 14 helpers ranks tied for second all-time in Division III history, and is a conference record, along with improving the program record by seven. 
Maldonado continued her dominant week with an 11-point showing against Puget Sound Thursday, March 14, as the Titans capped off their spring break trip with a 17-6 victory. Her 11 points came by way of three goals and eight assists. 
Fiandaca was named the defensive player of the week for the second time this season, marking the fourth weekly award of her career. The St. Charles, Ill. native was dominant on both sides of the ball for the Titans. Fiandaca finished the week with 17 points, an average of 8.5 points per game, composed of 15 goals and two assists. For the week, Fiandaca averaged 7.5 goals per game. She also compiled eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers, an average of four per game, and two draw controls. 
In the 22-13 win over Linfield Tuesday, March 12, Fiandaca broke the program's single-game goals record, as she finished with eight. The St. Charles, Ill. native assisted on one of Britney Maldonado's goals in her record-breaking performance to finish with nine points in the contest. She was dominant on the other side of the field as well, finishing the match with six ground balls, five caused turnovers, and two draw controls. 
Fiandaca followed up that impressive showing with another strong outing Thursday, March 14, as the Titans dominated Puget Sound in a 17-6 victory. The game saw Fiandaca lead the Green and White with seven goals, and totaled eight points, along with two ground balls and three caused turnovers. 
Illinois Wesleyan returns to action Wednesday, March 20, as the Titans host Calvin University. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium.
