Women’s DMR Claims CCIW Champion Title

Titan’s return to competition Saturday at 11 a.m.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Opening day one of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships in typical Titan fashion, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams came away with seven All-CCIW performances and a CCIW Champion distance medley relay team Friday, Feb. 23. 

After one day of competition the IWU women's squad sits third in team rankings with 24 points behind Carthage College in first with 48 points and North Central in second with 39.5 points. On the men's side, the Green and White compiled 21 points for fifth place while Carthage is first with 44 points and North Central is second with 40 points. 

The IWU women's distance medley relay showed out on Friday night as sophomores Brooke Nazos (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-Normal West), Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic), and freshman Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community) were crowned champions in the event for the first time since 2013. In the mile anchor leg, IWU, Millikin, Elmhurst, and North Central were crammed in a pack before Crabtree broke free on the straight-away to clinch the win in 12 minutes, 29.57 seconds. 
 
Sophomore Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) entered the long jump finals with the second furthest mark of 6.88m (22'7"), a jump that would stand for a second-place finish and All-CCIW honors, marking his second-straight year as all-conference in the event. Scott's mark is a personal best and ranks fifth in IWU's program history. Joining Scott in the long jump finals were teammates sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia), junior Brooks Johnson (Elburn, Ill.-Kaneland) and freshman Muhammad Freeman (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham). All five IWU competitors earned personal-best marks including freshman Cole Marshall (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) who was just shy of finals. Green (6.55m, 21'6") and Johnson (6.52m, 21'4.75") each earned All-CCIW accolades with seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively. 

Sophomore Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) earned a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.65m (15'3"), earning his second indoor All-CCIW honor in the event. 

Scott and freshman Reece Dusek both earned bids into tomorrow's 60-meter dash finals as Scott turned in a 6.99-second effort, granting him the fourth seed while Dusek's 7.07-second personal best snagged the final spot into finals and the fifth-fastest time on the program's all-times list. 

Junior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) posted the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdle preliminary heats with a personal best effort of 8.50 seconds making him the top seed heading into Saturday's finals.Harvey's time ranks ninth all-time for IWU. Freshman Matt Hyland (Burbank, Ill.-Saint Laurence) snuck his way into the last spot of tomorrow's finals with a 8.94 second run.

Junior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth) belted out another personal-best performance this season as her 15.18m (49'9.75") mark solidified a fifth place All-CCIW finish while ranking fifth in IWU's top-10 list. Senior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) went to work in the sand pit, notching a fifth place finish in the long jump with a 5.33m (17'6") mark, earning her first indoor long jump All-CCIW honor.

Junior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) went to battle for a third place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run to claim All-CCIW honors (18:37.47). The effort marks her second-straight year earning the distinction in the same event. 

Freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) posted the sixth-fastest time of 7.89 seconds in Friday's 60-meter dash preliminary rounds and will compete in tomorrow's finals at 2:20 p.m.

After day one of the men's heptathlon, sophomore Ashtin Elder (Chenoa, Ill.-Prairie Central) sits sixth with 2,217 points while senior Joshua Klein (Glen Carbon, Ill.-Edwardsville) is ninth with 2,009 points. The pair cap off the heptathlon tomorrow Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles followed by the pole vault and the 1000-meter run. 

The rest of Saturday's action at Al B. Carius Track in Naperville, Ill. will kick off in the field at noon and on the track at 12:30 p.m.
