NAPERVILLE, Ill. - With seven All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selections, the Illinois Wesleyan University football team was well represented on the league's postseason honors list announced Tuesday morning, Nov. 19. IWU's seven selections marked the most by the Titans since 2019 and ranked fifth-most in the league.
Illinois Wesleyan was represented on the All-CCIW First Team by seniors Myles Kee (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory),
Josh Hlavacek (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North), and
Zach McNees (Hillsboro, Mo.-Hillsboro), while seniors
Dylan Meyer (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka) and
Artist Benjamin (Wilmette, Ill.-Loyola Academy), junior
Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest), and sophomore
Matt Hansen (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) landed on the All-CCIW Second Team. Kee, McNees, Hlavacek, and Benjamin garnered all-conference honors for the second time in their careers. Senior
Sam Schott (West Lafayette, Ind.-West Lafayette) was named IWU's RESPECT Team honoree.
Kee, the first Titan wide receiver to earn First Team All-CCIW in back-to-back seasons since Jack Healy (2017 & 2018), was a top target for the Green and White this season. The senior hauled in 64 receptions for 708 yards. His 64 catches were good for third-most in the CCIW this season, while his 708 receiving yards ranked fifth. Kee registered seven touchdowns, fifth-most across the CCIW, as he averaged 70.8 yards per game. He posted three 100-yard receiving games, including a season-high 147 yards against WashU, Oct. 5.
Returning to the all-conference team, Hlavacek reeled in first team status after receiving second team honors in 2022. A key part of a stingy defensive front, he racked up nine tackles for loss, five sacks, and six quarterback hurries, while finishing with 41 tackles.Â
McNees repeated as a First Team All-CCIW pick, becoming the first Titan defensive lineman to do so since Mike Stephens did so in 2005 and 2006. The Hillsboro, Mo. native accrued a team-high 13 tackles for loss, while also leading the team with 8.5 sacks and tying for the team-high with seven quarterback hurries. McNees finished with 35 tackles, 23 solo and 12 assisted. He ranked second in the CCIW in sacks and tied for third in TFLs. McNees garnered CCIW Defensive Player of the Week accolades, Sept. 30, after posting three sacks and a trio of tackles for loss in a win over Carthage.Â
A co-captain and leader on the offensive line, Meyer finished off his career with all-conference honors. Meyer started all 10 games at left guard for the Green and White, blocking for the league's third-best rushing offense and fourth-best passing offense. IWU averaged 160.5 yards per game on the ground and 204.6 passing yards per game. Meyer helped block for four 100-yard rushers throughout the season.
Benjamin, who garnered Second Team All-CCIW status for the second straight season, battled in the secondary all season long. He ranked tied for second in the conference with 10 passes defended, tallying eight pass breakups and two interceptions over the 10-game season. Benjamin finished with 44 tackles, one quarterback hurry, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He posted season-highs of nine tackles and five pass breakups against WashU, Oct. 5, while his interceptions came at Central and at North Park.
A weapon on offense and on special teams, Scott was named to the All-CCIW Second Team as a returner. Scott was the CCIW's top return man with an average kickoff return of 26.9 yards, good for 19th-best nationally. His 88-yard kickoff return at Elmhurst, Sept. 21, was the second-longest in the conference this season, while he was one of two returners with kickoffs taken for touchdowns in the league. Scott added 568 rushing yards on 98 attempts, including four rushing touchdowns. He also recorded three TD catches, while finishing with 167 yards receiving on 24 receptions.
Rounding out IWU's all-conference selections, Hansen was named Second Team All-CCIW on the defensive line. In his first season as a starter, Hansen made 29 tackles, recorded 8.5 tackles for loss, and notched 4.5 sacks. He tied for the team lead with seven quarterback hurries, while also tallying a pass breakup and one forced fumble. Hansen was credited with two blocked kicks, tying for the CCIW lead as well as 19th-most nationally. He ranked tied for eighth in the league in TFLs and tied for seventh in sacks.
Illinois Wesleyan concluded the season with a 5-5 overall record, including a 5-4 CCIW mark, as the Titans posted their highest win total since 2022.
