Track and Field Finishes Drake Relays and Millikin Big Blue Invite

Men’s 4x400 team earned top-five all-time IWU mark

DES MOINES, IOWA & DECATUR, Ill. - In the final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at either the Drake Relays or the Millikin Big Blue Friday Night Invite, Friday, April 28. 

At the Drake Relays, the men's 4x100 team of senior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High), freshman Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), freshman Jake Tackett (Cisco, Ill.-Monticello), freshman Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) turned in an impressive time of 41.88. The mark earned the team a 14th-place finish in the event and the team now ranks fifth all-time in the IWU record books.

At Millikin, for the men, freshman Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) grabbed a second-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 15.87.

In the shot put, sophomore Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) welcomed second in the event as he posted a mark of 13.54 meters.

The pole vaulting duo of freshman Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) and senior Christian Gatsos (Brookfield, Ill.-Lyons Township) tied for second in the event as both athletes soared over the 4.40 meter bar. 

Senior Ethan Ruth (Winfield, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) notched third in the 400 meter hurdles as he secured a time of 55.74.

IWU went four and five in the hammer throw. Senior Ryan Maloney (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) claimed fourth with his heave of 43.91 meters. Additionally, sophomore CJ Ladeig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) recorded fifth in the event with his throw of 41.62 meters.

In the competitive 100 meter dash, sophomore Brooks Johnson (Elburn, Ill.-Kaneland) sprinted his way to a fourth-place finish as he crossed the finish line with a time of 11.29. Johnson also garnered fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.54).

On the women's side, sophomore Marissa Hagler (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal West) completed the 100 meter hurdles event with a mark of 16.05. The time earned the sophomore a second-place finish.

In the javelin throw, sophomore Caitlin McCane (Bloomington, Ill.-Tri-Valley) welcomed a second-place heave with a mark of 30.83 meters. Also in the javelin, senior Kayleigh Hall (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) cracked the top-five as he posted fifth in the event 29.38 meters.

The Green and White will now turn its attention to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Championships. The two-day event is set for Friday-Saturday, May 5-6 with Carroll University serving as the host institution.
