Women’s Lacrosse Hosts No. 16 Chicago for Senior Day Showdown

Titans will honor six seniors prior to match

BLOOMINGTON,Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will host No. 16 University of Chicago for a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match Saturday, April 24. 

The contest will serve as senior day for the Titans (6-8, 21- CCIW), who will honor seniors Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East), Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community), Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South), Carlyn Bratt (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior), and Kelly Carlson (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township), prior to the match. 

Illinois Wesleyan enters off a road loss to Carroll University Saturday, April 15. Gleason topped the Titan offense with three goals, while freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) recorded two. Fountain tied team-highs in ground balls and caused turnovers, as she notched a pair of both. 

The Titans are led by sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) on offense with 40 points on the season, including a team-high 35 goals. Gleason closely follows with 39 points, while having a team-best 16 assists. The senior enters Saturday's contest with 113 career points, tied for 10th-most in a career in program history, while her 78 career goals sits her in sole possession of 10th in the program's record book. 

Defensively, Gleason has scooped up a team-high 35 ground balls, followed by sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk's (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) 27. Gleason and Raczykowski have each caused 16 turnovers on the season, while Fiandaca has been credited with 14. 

Freshman Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) leads the Green and White with 57 draw controls, good to tie the ninth-most in a season in program history. Fiandaca has 45 draw controls, while Fountain sits in third with 34. 

Chicago most recently shut out Augustana College, 23-0, Wednesday, April 19, to improve to 11-2 overall, 2-0 in conference action. The Titans hold a slim, 3-2, advantage over the Maroons, but have dropped the last two contests. The two teams most previously matched up in the CCIW Tournament Semifinals May, 4, 2022. UC took a 19-1 victory and made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament Third Round.
