Miller Wins Pentathlon on Day One of Keck DIII Select

Titans earn a trio of first-place finishes in nine total events

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams tackled day one of a busy weekend inside of the Shirk Center Indoor Track, Friday evening, Feb. 3. IWU's multi athletes competed in the annual Keck DIII Select meet. The men took part in half of the heptathlon, while the women completed the pentathlon. 

The conclusion of the heptathlon will commence tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The start of all other events will begin at 11:30 a.m., right after IWU's senior day ceremony.

Four IWU athletes competed in the multi. For the men, senior Davis Nguy (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), junior Joshua Klein (Glen Carbon, Ill.-Edwardsville), and freshman Ashtin Elder (Chenoa, Ill.-Prairie Central) showcased their skills, while senior Kinlee Miller (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) was the lone Titan representative on the women's side. 

The heptathlon and pentathlon fields included athletes from Division I Western Illinois University, along with Division III Millikin University, WashU, and Aurora University.

In the pentathlon, Miller claimed first with a point total of 2667. Aurora's Skylar Gibbs earned second with 2626 points.

With half of the heptathlon in the books, Nguy is in second (2373 points), Elder is in fourth (1979 points), and Klein is in fifth (1782 points).

For the women, Miller tallied a pair of victories in the long jump (4.95 meters) and shot put (8.92 meters). The Tuscola, Ill. native compiled a second-place finish in the high jump (1.45 meters), and third in the 60 meter hurdles (10.49) as well as third in the 800 meters (2:49.10). 

In the men's heptathlon, Nguy claimed a first-place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds. The Bloomington, Ill. native notched second-place marks in high jump (1.73 meters), long jump (6.12 meters), and shot put (9.55 meters).

Elder earned fourth in all four events, while Klein secured third in the shot put (9.29 meters) and fifth in three events. 

The Green and White will see a quick turnaround as the Keck DIII Select will come to an end, tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 4, inside of the Shirk Center Indoor Track. The first event is slated for 9 a.m., while the senior day celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m.
