BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Championships saw a trio of Titans claim event wins inside of the Shirk Center Indoor Track, Saturday, Feb. 25. Junior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) won the triple jump, senior Davis Nguy (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) won the heptathlon, while freshman Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) won the 400 meter event as the Illinois Wesleyan University men's team posted its highest finish in program history.

In the end, out of the nine conference institutions, the men's team finished in second-place with 102 points. The women's program notched sixth-place, with 59 points. North Central College took home the men's and women's team championships. The men's second-place team finish bested the 2008 squad's third-place effort.

During the awards ceremony, the Illinois Wesleyan men's coaching staff, led by Todd Lowder, took home the 2023 Coaching Staff of the Year award. The specialty award marked the first time the men's coaching staff garnered the recognition since 2005.

In the continuation of the men's heptathlon, Nguy picked up right where he left off yesterday by taking first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.33. Nguy soared to the tune of a second-place finish in the pole vault as the senior turned in a mark of 3.90 meters. Coming down to the final event, the Bloomington, Ill. native bested the field in the 1000 meter race to earn first-place in the heptathlon with a point total of 4351. Nguy's victory is just the second heptathlon win in IWU history and the first since 2015.

Lowder blew by his previous personal-best by nearly a second in the 400 meter race to earn a first-place finish. The Bloomington, Ill. native was the only athlete in the field to post a time under 50.00 seconds. With his sensational race, Lowder now holds the second-fastest time in program history. The win put an end to the 15-year drought as the last IWU 400 meter win came in 2008. Lowder followed his 400 performance with a third-place finish in the high jump (1.88 meters).

Getting her revenge from a year ago, Wong, who finished second last year in the triple jump, soared past the field to claim a conference championship. It was the first for the Titans in the event since 2016. The Bloomington, Ill. native posted a CCIW-best mark of 11.46 meters, good for 10 team points.

In the men's heptathlon, freshman Ashtin Elder (Chenoa, Ill.-Prairie Central) took fifth with a point total of 3410, while junior Joshua Klein (Glen Carbon, Ill.-Edwardsville) finished in seventh-place (3270 points).

In the high jump contest, senior Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) garnered a second-place jump as Tatlock cleared the 1.88 meter bar.

Freshman Zack Daniel (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) utilized a personal-best mile time of 4:21.58 to secure seventh and a pair of team points. With his new personal-best, Daniel upped his sixth-fastest mark in IWU history, just 00.08 seconds off of fifth in school history. In the 3000 meter, the Lake Barrington, Ill. native welcomed another personal-best time (8:43.64) to leapfrog one place in the all-time top-10 rankings. Daniel was in sixth, but he is now in fifth after his solid showing.

Sophomore Sam Okewole (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) soared to a personal-best mark of 13.51 meters in the triple jump. Okewole's jump gave him third in the CCIW, along with six points for the Green and White.

In the highly competitive 60 meter dash, senior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) and freshman Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) crossed the finish line with times of 7.042 and 7.045, respectively. Schumacher earned fifth, while Scott secured sixth for a total of seven points in the event.

The Titan duo of freshman Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) and senior Ethan Ruth (Winfield, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) combined for four team points in the 60 hurdles event. Mogged (8.72) and Ruth (9.09) finished in sixth and eighth, respectively, en route to all-conference honors.

On the women's side, sophomore Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) turned in a second-place high jump as she cleared the 1.53 meter bar. Wilson secured eight big points for the Titans.

Also securing a second-place finish, freshman Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) crossed the finish line with a personal-best time of 10:27.51 in the 3000 meter race. Crabtree now owns the seventh-fastest 3000 meter time in IWU history.

Sophomore Franchesca Smith (Chicago, Ill.-Bloomington) earned a triple jump distance of 10.76 meters, as Smith garnered fifth-place in the event.

Notching a personal-best in the 400 meter, freshman Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) turned in the sixth-best time in the conference (1:00.75). Freshman Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) ran a clip of 1:02.14, to earn seventh in the 400. The freshman duo notched five team points.

Crabtree crossed the finish line in the mile with a time of 5:23.73, good for sixth in the event and three team points. Sophomore Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn) was right behind Crabtree with a mark of 5:23.86. The time earned McGrath a seventh-place finish, along with two team points.

After competing in the 5000 meter race last night, sophomore Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) completed the 3000 meter event with a personal-best time of 10:32.17, to earn sixth. With that time, Chudy entered the IWU top-10 list. The Libertyville, Ill. holds the ninth-fastest 3000 meter time in school history.

The Green and White will turn to the program's last chance meets in hopes of securing or producing a personal-best mark for an NCAA Championship berth. The Titans will either head to Wartburg or Carthage, Friday-Saturday, May 3-4.
